It's Time for a Change!

As the newest member of the Brighta Consulting whānau, I have a lot to be excited about and thankful for. Despite the enormous changes taking place in the Resource Management world, there are great people to work with and opportunities for growth, resilience, and progress to embrace. I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about me and how I became a Strategic Environmental Consultant with Brighta.

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!
What is the most important thing in the world? It is people! It is people! It is people!

People, places, and passion are the cornerstones of my work. I thrive on collaborating with individuals dedicated to creating vibrant urban and rural landscapes that are productive, safe, welcoming, and harmoniously integrated with our natural environment. It is the importance of human connection and relationships that fosters communities where people can flourish.

Nāu te rourou, nāku te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi.
With your food basket and my food basket, the people will thrive.

In this time of significant legislative and policy change, providing strategic advice and training to local and central government officers, as well as private individuals and businesses, is key to ensuring we thrive at local, regional, and national levels. My ability to contribute is significantly enhanced when I step away from legal practice and step into the breadth and depth of strategic advisory consulting.

It became clear to me that, despite over 20 years of experience as a practicing lawyer and holding a Master of Laws, it was time to transition from legal practice to resource management consulting if I were to really engage and support others during this period of change. The question was: with whom could I be the most effective and offer the most to others?

Reflecting on my achievements to date, my greatest satisfaction has come from working alongside skilled, intelligent, and energised individuals—whether they were lawyers, planning experts, or seasoned business owners. It was essential to find not only the right team but also the right space.

As people disappear from sight, the land remains.

Brighta Consulting has provided the perfect opportunity to work with a highly skilled, collaborative, and innovative team of like-minded professionals. We share many values, particularly our passion for people, respect for the environment, and desire to empower the people we work with. I am very happy to have found a home here with the Brighta Consulting whānau and look forward to the next chapter of my career.
